1. Inspect Outdoor Plumbing

Take a walk around the perimeter of your home and check your outdoor faucets and spigots to ensure they’re in good shape and free of any blockages or cracks. Even a small amount of damage can lead to leakage and waste. Also, inspect your home’s foundation for pooling water, which can lead to structural damage.

2. Prepare Your Irrigation System

If you have an irrigation system installed in your lawn, spring is the time to get it up and running. Inspect the sprinkler heads and pipes to ensure they aren’t cracked or show other visible signs of damage before you turn it on.

3. Schedule a Sewer Line Inspection

As your lawn thaws, tree roots can grow toward water sources and interfere with your sewer lines. A line inspection is a non-invasive way to check if this is causing problems with your plumbing and extend the life of your pipes and sewage system.

4. Test and Clean Indoor Plumbing Fixtures

Look at your bathroom showerheads and faucets and note any leaks that need to be addressed. Wipe down faucets and clean aerators to remove any minerals that have built up over the last few months. Run all of your faucets and note any slow drainage that could indicate a clog or blockage.

5. Examine Indoor Pipes for Leaks and Cracks

Check under sinks and places where pipes are exposed for leaks and other signs of water damage. That includes stains or musty odors. Freezing temperatures can also cause pipes to crack and even move, so make sure to take note (and call the Heiden team) if you see these changes.

6. Review Water Bill

Spring is a great time to go over your water bill and compare it to the previous one. Large spikes in usage can indicate leaks or other problems. This is also a good time of year to check out your water softener and replace filters or fill salt if necessary.

7. Schedule Spring Plumbing Maintenance

If you have concerns with your plumbing, schedule maintenance with a reputable plumber—like those on our Heiden Plumbing team.
